I began my career as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in 1993 following graduate school in NYC. Prior to this, I was choreographing and performing in NYC's Off Off Broadway, living my dream and living on a dime. As a dance/Art major at Ohio University's School of Fine Arts, I came to NY in the early 1980's to find my way. It was a vibrant time to be in NYC, I learned a great deal about myself and found my work to be healing for both the audience and myself. I was introduced to dance/movement therapy as a profession and went on to study for my Masters degree. My interest was to work with children, teens and young adults. My first internship was on a child and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit in Patterson, NJ, which over time lead me to supervising a progressive child and adolescent psychiatric unit in the South Bronx, NY some 8 years later. My leadership skills were honed and I was ready to run my own show. After 9/11, I decided to leave NYC for the country, and in 2003 I started a private practice called Damselfly Center in the Hudson Valley, providing services to children and teens. I immediately began attracting clients on the autism spectrum, who were struggling socially and emotionally. The creative arts therapies were perfect for these kids. Dance, movement and play is non-verbal communication at it's best. I found working in groups to be most effective and started a social skills program called Amazing Kids Amazing Families. The program flourished, 3 locations and dozens of groups later, the kids were making changes and making friends.
2005 was an auspicious year for me, not only did I find RDI, I was also introduced to Christiane Northrup MD, author of Women's Bodies Women's Wisdom, The Wisdom of Menopause and Mother-Daughter Wisdom, through a business opportunity called Team Northrup, a health and wellness venture, teaching others to become entrepreneurs while endorsing the top nutritional product line used by physicians and elite athletes. In the 7 years that I have been a part of Team Northrup, I have become one of the top leaders, sharing the vision of true health and true wealth. It has been one of the most profound experiences I have had as an entrepreneur. I have gained immense knowledge from my mentor, Dr. Northrup about how nutrition plays a vital role in our ability to process information on a cellular level. Therefore, with my reinvention of the iFamilyCoach, I am integrating nutrition and wellness into my practice for those looking for quality information and products that support neurological, intellectual and emotional growth.
I am most excited about 2012 and getting this work out to those who want a family coach who can train parents in a new way of interacting, communicating that will help to create meaningful connections with their kids. Especially to those where this kind of approach has been out of reach. The internet and Skype are a gift in bringing people together for support, education and training. RDI Connect, the parent program, has an extensive online program for global interaction. Join us on one of our introductory calls to learn more.
